The Leadership Intelligence Stack

The six intelligences every executive must hold and orchestrate simultaneously in the AI era, and why holding five of them is not enough.

What is the Leadership Intelligence Stack?

The Leadership Intelligence Stack is a framework defining six intelligences every executive must hold and orchestrate simultaneously in the AI era: Human, Artificial, Orchestration, Business, Portfolio, and Cultural Intelligence.

The Stack was developed by Marc A. Rémond, founder of Strategic Pathways Pte Ltd in Singapore, from twenty-five years of enterprise technology leadership across Asia Pacific. It is the spine of the book EVOLVE-OR-DIE.AI: Leading in the Era of Human and AI Intelligence and the framework taught in The Intelligent Leader programme.

None of the six intelligences is new. Strong leaders have always held them. What is new is the requirement to hold and deploy all six simultaneously, in an environment where AI operates on the same information you do, faster and with greater breadth, but without the judgment, ethics and accountability that only a human leader can bring.

Why is it a stack and not a list?

A list implies independent items that can be developed in any order and held in isolation. The six intelligences do not behave that way. They interact, they constrain each other, and they flow, or fail to flow, across the organisational boundaries most enterprises have spent decades building.

The stack metaphor carries three claims. Human Intelligence is the foundation: every other intelligence depends on the quality of the human judgment operating above it. Artificial Intelligence is the new operating environment: every other intelligence must now function inside it. And the layers are an integrated operating set, not a ranking. A leader who holds five of the six well and neglects the sixth is not eighty-three per cent ready. They carry a structural blind spot that the AI era will find and exploit.

HI
Human Intelligence

Human Intelligence is judgment under uncertainty, ethical reasoning, empathy, contextual awareness and lived experience. It is the irreplaceable human layer that AI amplifies but cannot replace. It is not a soft skill and not a personality trait: it is the capability to lead people, make judgment calls under uncertainty, and own the consequences. Every other intelligence in the Stack depends on the quality of the human judgment operating above it.

AI
Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence, as a leadership discipline, is the capacity to work with, interrogate and govern AI systems and their outputs. It is not about knowing which model to use. It is about understanding the architecture, the geopolitical landscape and the governance requirements well enough to make the decisions that determine what your organisation builds, how exposed it is to sovereign risk, and what redundancy its AI infrastructure requires. That includes navigating the bifurcation of the global AI landscape into US-led and China-led ecosystems.

OI
Orchestration Intelligence

Orchestration Intelligence is the capacity to design, deploy and govern a mixed workforce of humans and AI agents: to know which capabilities belong to humans, which to agents, and how to combine both without losing accountability, quality or human authority. It is the newest discipline in the Stack. It did not exist as a leadership discipline five years ago, and it is not AI literacy, which is knowing how AI works, nor AI strategy, which is knowing where to deploy it.

BI
Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence is commercial judgment held steady in an AI-accelerated environment: financial performance, commercial dynamics, P&L and revenue operations. The numbers now move faster than the quarter. The leader who cannot read what the numbers mean, why they are moving, and which intervention will change them is operating blind at speed.

PI
Portfolio Intelligence

Portfolio Intelligence is the capacity to make build, buy, bundle or kill decisions well under compression: products, services and solutions portfolio, competitive intelligence, and market positioning. AI has compressed competitive cycles. A portfolio decision that took a quarter now takes days, and the category boundaries it must respect are being redrawn faster than any planning cycle.

CI
Cultural Intelligence

Cultural Intelligence is a structural leadership capability, not sensitivity training. It is the capacity to lead across cultures, geographies, ownership structures and regulatory environments, and to understand how a decision lands differently in Singapore, Jakarta, Tokyo, Mumbai and Sydney. No algorithm replicates it, and in a globally bifurcated AI landscape it determines whether a decision made in a boardroom lands in the market the way it was intended.

Why these six intelligences and not twelve?

The Stack is not a complete inventory of leadership capabilities. Every leader needs strategic thinking, financial literacy, risk awareness and a dozen other competencies business schools have taught for decades. The inclusion criterion is not comprehensiveness. It is urgency and invisibility. Each of the six passed three tests:

The exclusions are deliberate. Ethical judgment belongs inside Human Intelligence, because ethics without lived human judgment is not ethics but compliance. Data intelligence is an operational discipline owned at the CIO level. Strategic intelligence is assumed in every C-suite role before the leader arrives in the room. The six that remain are universal: a CEO in Singapore, a CMO in Paris, a CHRO in São Paulo and a CFO in Toronto need all six, for the same reasons, with the same urgency.

What are the functional intelligences?

Beyond the universal six, leaders develop domain-specific intelligences based on their function. The Stack recognises eight: Market Intelligence, Demand Intelligence, Account Intelligence, Channel Intelligence, Talent Intelligence, Financial Intelligence, Operational Intelligence, and Partner Intelligence. Channel Intelligence is structured through the 4C Channel Framework and Partner Intelligence through the 4P Partner Framework. These are addressed across the applied blocks of The Intelligent Leader programme rather than as separate disciplines.

What operating system does the Stack govern?

Where is the Leadership Intelligence Stack taught?

Three places. The book EVOLVE-OR-DIE.AI builds the Stack layer by layer and applies it to every C-suite role. The Intelligent Leader programme teaches it as an executive capability across twenty-seven video modules in five blocks. The first block is free. And for leadership teams, the programme is delivered as an in-person executive workshop, facilitated personally by Marc A. Rémond, working with a small number of organisations each quarter. Workshop enquiries: partner@strategicpathways.asia.
